Known as the “Gateway to the Oregon Caves”, Cave Junction is located at the junction of Redwood Highway and Caves Highway in Josephine County. Established in the 1850s as a hub for the Oregon gold rush (the first gold in the state was found at this location), the city of Cave Junction evolved from a small mining town, to a lumber dependent economy, and more recently has become both a haven for retirees as well as a tourist destination.

With an estimated population of 1,954 residents, this small community covers a total area of 1.82 square miles and is served by the Three Rivers School District, which offers local students the services of three schools, including Evergreen Elementary School, Illinois Valley High School, and Lorna Byrne Middle School.

Cave Junction is home to several points of interest, which are the main attractors for tourists. These attractions include a museum and a zoo, as well as a resort that houses guests in treehouses. As if that weren’t enough, the city is also home to a large number of historic sites related to the era of gold mining, and for those who enjoy nature and the outdoors, the Oregon Caves National Monument and Preserve, offers hiking trails, awe inspiring caves, and much more.

Additionally, the Great Cats World Park, which houses a total 44 cats, of 17 different species, including cougars, leopards, jaguars, African lions, Siberian tigers, a fishing cat, and an ocelot, has become one of the most popular places in the area for both locals and visitors alike.

But Cave Junction’s crowning glory are the vineyards and wine production. The city is the birthplace and home of Bridgeview Vineyards, which is considered to be one of the largest wineries in Oregon, and which has garnered international renown for its chardonnay, pinot gris and pinot noir, receiving a number of awards for high quality and bouquet.

In all, Cave Junction has a lot to offer, and has become a species of magnet for those seeking an adventure that will create long lasting memories for young and old alike. Zip Code: 97523
